Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will ensure that around 80% of its new hires going forward possess digital and artificial intelligence skills, as the IT services major reshapes its workforce around AI-led service delivery, a top company official said on 12 October 2026.
The commentary followed TCS’s Q2 FY27 earnings announcement on 8 October 2026, in which the company reported that AI-led work now accounts for 10% of overall revenue. AI revenue growth is expected to support margin expansion as the company moves beyond legacy service lines into agentic AI, platform modernisation, and data-led transformation work.
“Of the 4,500 that we have added in Q2, I would say safely 25 to 30 per cent are pure AI and total about 80 per cent is new age,” said Arathi Subramanian, chief operating officer, Tata Consultancy Services, in an interaction with Press Trust of India. She added that the same hiring mix is expected to continue, with the required talent available in the market, and that the company will keep investing in “niche talent” alongside existing campus and lateral channels.
TCS CEO and managing director K Krithivasan said the shift favours professionals willing to adapt. He described “unlearn and learn” as the key advantage for mid-career engineers looking to transition into AI-adjacent roles, suggesting the opportunity isn’t limited to fresh graduates. TCS onboarded 10,000 freshers in Q2 FY27 and roughly 24,000 freshers in the first half of FY27
The 80% target reframes the hiring conversation for Indian IT. For a company with close to 598,000 employees at the start of the fiscal year, orienting four out of five new entrants around digital and AI capability signals a long-horizon bet that incoming cohorts must be AI-ready at the point of entry, not several quarters into their tenure.
