Infosys reported a net reduction of 8,440 employees in the January–March 2026 quarter, taking its total workforce to 328,594 and reversing a six-quarter streak of sequential additions.

The India-headquartered IT services major disclosed the figures in its Q4 FY26 results announcement after market hours on April 23, 2026. The drop came even as the company posted a 21% year-on-year rise in consolidated net profit to ₹8,501 crore and a 13.4% revenue increase to ₹46,402 crore. The board also declared a final dividend of ₹25 per share for the financial year ending March 31, 2026.

Voluntary attrition (LTM, IT Services) rose to 12.6% from 12.3% in the previous quarter, though it remained lower than the 14.1% reported in Q4 FY25. Women employees made up 39.5% of the workforce, unchanged sequentially but up from 39.0% a year earlier.

Explaining the headcount decline, Jayesh Sanghrajka, Chief Financial Officer at Infosys, said at the earnings conference, “Our headcount sequentially has gone down, but on a YoY basis it has gone up by 5,000 people. There’s always some quarterly seasonality. Headcount is a function of utilisation and the volumes we see. This quarter, the volumes were softer, plus the freshers in the system had to be accounted for.”

The company had already onboarded around 18,000 freshers in the first three quarters of FY26 and earlier indicated it would close the year with 20,000 campus hires. CEO Salil Parekh, speaking on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2026, had also committed to recruiting 20,000 college graduates in FY27.

Infosys said demand remains affected by lower discretionary spending and macroeconomic challenges in key markets.
