Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s six-day visit to the United Kingdom has secured investment commitments worth ₹15,300 crore that the state expects to create more than 10,000 jobs.
The Chief Minister travelled to England on September 10, 2026, and returned to Chennai on September 17, the state government said in an official release. The trip was framed as part of Tamil Nadu’s goal of becoming a 1.5 trillion dollar economy by 2036.
“The Tamil Nadu government has secured investment commitments worth ₹15,300 crore and over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs for the state,” the government said in the release.
The commitments span auto components, research and development, renewable energy, power grid equipment and Global Capability Centres. The agreements, a mix of MoUs and letters of intent, were signed in London on September 14. The largest proposal came from Samvardhana Motherson International and its UK and European joint ventures.
Several projects carry specific job numbers. Swedish firm Sigma Technology Group will expand its GCC presence in Tiruchirappalli and Chennai through its Indian arm Sreeya Solutions, adding 600 roles in embedded systems and electrification, while UK-based Wilson Power Solutions will invest ₹300 crore in Tiruvallur district for around 400 jobs. Vijay also met Indian High Commissioner to the UK Kumaran Periasamy to discuss opportunities under the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.
The visit builds on the VETTRI Tamil Nadu Investors Conclave 2026, through which the state says 97 MoUs worth ₹67,452 crore and close to 1,06,998 jobs were signed. The government added that Tamil Nadu has attracted over ₹1 lakh crore in investment in the first 100 days of the administration.
The announcements add to the state’s pipeline of manufacturing, GCC and clean energy roles that will take time to convert from commitment to hiring. How many of the 10,000 projected jobs materialise, and over what period, will determine the real employment impact.
