Alphabet, Google’s parent company, grew its global workforce by roughly 10,000 workers between April and September 2026, taking the group’s consolidated headcount to 204,757 at the end of the quarter, a hiring run that stands apart as peer firms across the technology industry continue to pare back.

The Google parent reports workforce numbers at the group level only, disclosing the figure in its Q3 2026 earnings release. The consolidated number covers Google, Google Cloud, and Alphabet’s smaller Other Bets businesses, with Google accounting for the overwhelming majority of staff. A Google-only standalone headcount is not separately disclosed.

The group had 194,668 staff at the end of March, rising to 204,757 six months later, a net addition of 10,089 roles. Growth came mainly in the September quarter. The payroll expanded from 198,933 at the end of June to 204,757 at the end of September, a quarterly addition of 5,824 roles. Compared with Alphabet’s end-of-September 2025 headcount of 190,167, the latest print is up 7.7% year on year.

Not all of the increase came from fresh hiring. Google closed its purchase of cybersecurity firm Wiz on 11 March 2026, folding about 2,000 Wiz staff into the group’s workforce. Alphabet has not disclosed a split between fresh hires and employees who joined through the acquisition.

Rival Big Tech employers have taken a different route. Meta is partway through a renewed cost-cutting push, Microsoft has opened a voluntary exit offer for staff on selected teams, and ServiceNow has openly tied a dip in its own headcount to productivity it says it is extracting from its AI products.

India is a sizeable part of Alphabet’s global footprint, with Google engineering, cloud, and support teams across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Gurugram, and Pune. The group has not shared a country-level breakdown of where the last six months of growth landed.
