Mahindra & Mahindra will invest Rs 15,000 crore over the next decade to set up its largest integrated manufacturing facility for automobiles and tractors near Nagpur, with production scheduled to commence in 2028. The 1,500-acre greenfield site at Additional Butibori in the Vidarbha region will be complemented by a 150-acre supplier park at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Once fully operational, the plant will have an annual capacity of over 5 lakh vehicles and 1 lakh tractors, making it Mahindra’s biggest integrated manufacturing footprint in India. The automotive line will support Mahindra Auto’s next-generation NU_IQ architecture and will produce vehicles across internal combustion, electric and future powertrains for both Indian and global markets.

“This facility represents a bold step forward in Mahindra’s manufacturing journey,” said Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO, Auto and Farm Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was present at the Advantage Vidarbha event where the project was announced, said: “This landmark investment will generate significant employment, accelerate regional development in Vidarbha and surrounding areas, and further reinforce Maharashtra’s position as a leading manufacturing hub in India.” Fadnavis separately indicated the project is expected to create as many as 6,000 direct jobs.

Mahindra is taking possession of the first 800 acres at Additional Butibori after the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation allotted the land. The company will also set up a dedicated skilling centre in Nagpur to train the workforce in mechanical operations, welding and painting, alongside drawing on associates from its Chakan and Nashik plants over the next two to three years.

Across the 10-year horizon, Mahindra will acquire more than 2,000 acres across three locations in Maharashtra, including Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and the Igatpuri-Nashik belt. The Sambhajinagar supplier park will feed components to the new Nagpur plant as well as the Chakan and Nashik facilities. Mahindra has not disclosed the total number of jobs the project will create; those details will be shared as the project progresses.
