A viral social media post alleging that US fintech firm Bluevine fired its entire 80-member Indian customer support team during a five-minute Google Meet call has drawn widespread reaction online.
The claim surfaced on September 17, 2026, in a post on the r/IndianWorkplace forum. The user, who said they had been part of the team until the previous day, wrote that employees were asked to work from home that day for “operational reasons”. Several hours into the evening shift, the post said, staff were called into a Google Meet and told the entire Indian customer service team was being let go.
“All 80 employees! All gone … 80 families affected just with a 5min call,” the user wrote, according to reports. “I feel bad that we work for these corporates who can throw us out anytime and regret that I used to work hard at my job.”
The employee said the team was told its performance had not met the company’s expectations, a reason the worker disputed, claiming the US team had faced higher attrition. Employees also said their company access was cut off immediately after the call ended.
The account is based on an anonymous social media post and has not been independently verified. Bluevine had not issued a public statement responding to the allegations at the time of reporting.
Bluevine describes itself as a financial technology company, not a bank, offering checking, lending and payment products to small businesses in the US. It says it has served more than 750,000 small businesses since 2013 and is backed by investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Menlo Ventures and Citi Ventures. The firm runs an India-based support hub and has advertised customer support and leadership roles in Bengaluru.
The episode adds to a run of layoff stories involving Indian teams at global firms in 2026, and to a wider debate about how offshore support functions are managed. It also revives questions about severance norms and the way terminations are communicated to remote workers.
