Companies continue to introduce new leave policies to support their employees, and Diageo India is the latest to do so with its Carer’s Leave Policy, aimed at fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace.
The policy provides full-time employees with up to five paid days off each year to care for loved ones who need long-term or ongoing support due to age, disability, or chronic illness. Leave can also be taken in half-day increments, offering flexibility to balance caregiving duties with work. Recognizing the growing pressures on India’s “sandwich generation”, employees caring for both ageing parents and young children, Diageo designed this policy to help ease the challenges of dual caregiving.
Commenting on the initiative, Shilpa Vaid, CHRO, Diageo India, said, “At Diageo India, we recognise that many colleagues are also caregivers at home. This policy ensures they don’t have to choose between family and career. It reflects our belief that when people feel supported, they bring their best to work and beyond.”
With this initiative, Diageo India expands its suite of progressive policies, which already cover gender-neutral parental leave, support for pregnancy loss, fertility and menopause care, and holistic wellbeing programs. Notably, just last month Google India introduced a comprehensive Elder-Care Support Programme to help employees balance demanding careers with the responsibilities of caring for ageing family members, highlighting a growing focus on caregiver support across industries.
