NTPC Limited has elevated Premlata to Executive Director (Human Resources), placing a long-serving internal leader in charge of people strategy at India’s largest power generation company. The move continues NTPC’s pattern of filling senior HR roles from within rather than hiring externally.
Premlata brings more than three decades of experience across NTPC and its associated entities. Before this elevation, she served as Chief General Manager and Regional Head of HR for Western Region-II at NTPC, while also holding the post of Chief Human Resources Officer at NSPCL, the NTPC-SAIL Power Company joint venture. Her earlier roles spanned talent management, employee relations, performance management systems, leadership development, and workforce planning.
“Every new role brings a greater opportunity to serve, learn, and create meaningful impact. I am humbled and honoured to assume the responsibility of Executive Director (HR), NTPC,” Premlata shared on LinkedIn. “This milestone reflects the support, guidance, and trust of my mentors, colleagues, and teams, to whom I am deeply grateful. The learning continues, and so does the commitment to people and organisational excellence.”
She began her NTPC journey as an Executive Trainee (Personnel) and rose through Officer, Senior Manager, AGM, and Additional General Manager (HR) positions before reaching the regional leadership tier. That entire arc sat inside one organisation, which is increasingly rare at the CXO level.
In the new role, Premlata is expected to anchor NTPC’s workforce strategy as the energy sector navigates a heavy transition toward thermal, hydro, nuclear, and renewable capacity. Her remit covers capability building, employee engagement, and organisational effectiveness across a sprawling operational footprint.
