Saurabh Kumar has been elevated to Vice President, Human Resources at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, in recognition of more than a decade of progressive leadership within the company’s people function.
Kumar confirmed the development through a LinkedIn post, expressing enthusiasm for the expanded role. In his new position, he will oversee talent management, leadership development, succession planning, and the digitalisation of HR processes, as Maruti Suzuki deepens its focus on aligning workforce strategy with the demands of a manufacturing business in transformation.
His journey at Maruti Suzuki has been one of steady, internally recognised progression. Before this elevation, Kumar served as Senior General Manager, HR, and prior to that as Deputy General Manager and Assistant General Manager within the function.
Earlier in his time at the company, Kumar headed HR for the Manesar car plant, one of Maruti Suzuki’s most strategically significant manufacturing facilities, where he developed deep expertise in industrial relations, union negotiations, wage settlements, and plant-level workforce management. He also led the company’s last long-term wage settlement as project manager, an assignment that, according to peers, demonstrated his ability to navigate complex, multi-stakeholder negotiations with integrity and rigour.
Before joining Maruti Suzuki, Kumar spent more than seven years at Tata Motors in an employee relations role, where he gained a solid grounding in workforce management across a large manufacturing environment. He began his career at Hindalco Industries in 2007 as a Senior Officer, gaining early experience in industrial relations and employee engagement. He holds an MBA in Human Resource Management and Personnel Administration from the Xavier Institute of Social Service, Ranchi, where he graduated with distinction.
