Infosys added 4,480 employees in the second quarter of FY27, taking its total headcount to 3,32,542 as of September 30, 2026, a sign that hiring priorities at the IT major may be shifting back toward workforce growth.
The addition comes even as combined headcount across six of India’s largest IT services companies, including Infosys, fell by nearly 24,000 positions over the past year as attrition outpaced replacement hiring, according to Xpheno data reported by the Economic Times. Infosys’s Q2 intake stands out against that broader backdrop of net headcount decline across the sector.
The company has not issued a separate statement specifically on the quarter’s hiring numbers beyond the headcount disclosure.
The addition also comes as India’s broader hiring sentiment strengthens. ManpowerGroup’s Q4 2026 Employment Outlook Survey found India’s Net Employment Outlook at 54%, the highest among 42 countries surveyed, with 65% of Indian employers planning to increase staffing between October and December 2026. All nine sectors surveyed in India reported positive hiring expectations for the quarter.
Whether the Q2 uptick at Infosys marks the start of a sustained hiring push or a one-quarter adjustment will become clearer as the company’s subsequent quarterly disclosures are published.
