Hyundai Motor India Limited has committed to making Tamil Nadu its flagship EV hub for India and announced a skill development partnership with the state government, following a meeting between company officials and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay in Chennai.

The carmaker reaffirmed an investment of over ₹26,000 crore in Tamil Nadu between 2023 and 2032, part of a wider ₹45,000 crore commitment. HMIL said it will roll out two new models from its Chennai facility this year, including its first mass-market dedicated electric vehicle. The company expects the broader push to support around 2,000 additional jobs over five to six years.

The skill development collaboration with the Government of Tamil Nadu is scheduled to begin operations in December 2027. It will focus on improving the global employability of the state’s youth, with training in next-generation automotive technologies, including electric vehicles, hydrogen mobility, robotics, automation, and AI-enabled manufacturing.

We will roll out two new models from the Chennai facility, including our first mass-market dedicated EV within this year, marking a significant step towards accelerating EV adoption and building a strong EV ecosystem,” said Tarun Garg, MD and CEO of HMIL. He added that the company is equally focused on developing a future-ready, skilled workforce.

For HR and talent leaders, the announcement signals continued investment in manufacturing-linked skilling at a time when EV transition and smart factory adoption are reshaping the automotive workforce. Hyundai has exported over 3.9 million vehicles from Tamil Nadu to more than 150 countries and has set up a DC fast-charging network of 39 stations and 78 charging points in the state.
