HDFC Bank’s internal investigation has found evidence that two senior executives shared confidential business strategies and potentially market-sensitive information with external parties, according to a Bloomberg report published on 21 October 2026.
The two executives oversee key businesses and functions at India’s largest private sector lender, and the probe was initiated after some of the bank’s senior leaders raised concerns over possible information leaks. The findings were reported to senior management, including some board members, earlier this year.
The bank has not publicly identified the executives or disclosed details of the information allegedly shared. An HDFC Bank spokesperson confirmed that an internal review was underway but did not comment on the findings or the identities of those involved.
“HDFC Bank takes any matter pertaining to its reputation with utmost seriousness and is committed to addressing any concerns raised by stakeholders,” an HDFC Bank spokesperson said in response to earlier Bloomberg queries on related compliance matters.
The investigation comes as HDFC Bank undergoes a significant leadership transition. Anup Bagchi, a veteran of the ICICI Group, is set to take over as the bank’s chief executive on 27 October 2026. The lender, which has a market capitalisation of around USD 115 billion, has historically built its reputation around conservative management, internal controls and consistent profitability.
The disclosure adds to a wider governance watch on Indian private banks following earlier regulatory actions involving unpublished price-sensitive information and compliance reviews at the bank’s international branches.
