The Gurugram district administration issued a work-from-home advisory for offices and institutions on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, after heavy rainfall on 24 August caused widespread waterlogging and traffic congestion across the district.
The District Disaster Management Authority directed all corporate offices, government and private schools, and institutions to have staff work from home, and advised online classes for educational institutions. The city recorded 70 mm of rainfall by 1:30 pm on Monday.
The advisory was issued by the Deputy Commissioner and carried the signature of the District Magistrate, dated 24 August 2026, under Endorsement No. 349/FRA. The notice cited the possibility of waterlogging and traffic congestion, and said the measure would help reduce road congestion and let civic agencies carry out repair and maintenance work on roads and drains.
Severe waterlogging was reported at Rajiv Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, Railway Road, Sector 5, Old Delhi Road, Mehrauli Road, Basai Road, Narsinghpur, and the Sohna Road stretch near Airia Mall, among other locations. School buses carrying children were stranded on flooded roads during the afternoon, raising safety concerns among parents. Ambulances were also caught in the waterlogging, and traffic personnel were deployed to divert vehicles and clear major intersections.
The advisory adds Gurugram to a recurring monsoon pattern in which the city, a major corporate and Global Capability Centre hub, shifts to remote work during heavy spells. Similar WFH orders were issued in July 2025 and in previous monsoon seasons, prompting periodic scrutiny of the city’s drainage infrastructure.
Copies of the advisory were circulated to district education officers to ensure the instruction reached every school, and to the district information office for public communication. Employers across sectors were expected to move eligible staff to remote work for the day.
Whether the advisory is extended will depend on further rainfall and the pace at which waterlogged stretches are cleared.
