Global payroll and hiring platform Deel announced on August 3, 2026, that it has acquired Clarity, a Tel Aviv-based AI security startup that detects deepfakes and fake candidate identities during remote hiring. The deal, Deel’s 15th acquisition and its first involving an Israeli company, is estimated at $40-50 million, though neither company has officially disclosed terms.

Clarity, founded in 2022, previously raised $16 million from investors including Bessemer Venture Partners and Walden Catalyst Ventures. Its technology flags manipulated faces, cloned voices, forged documents, and live video tampering, the exact tools scammers use to pose as legitimate job candidates during video interviews.

Michael Matias, Clarity’s Co-founder and CEO, described the kind of case the technology was built to catch: “Just before the candidate received the official offer and the company laptop, the system identified that this was a fake identity.”

That’s not a hypothetical. Fake remote-worker schemes, including cases tied to sanctioned state actors posing as freelance developers, have hit Western tech companies hard enough that identity verification has become a genuine hiring risk category, not just a background-check line item. Deel plans to weave Clarity’s detection into the full hiring lifecycle: verification at the interview stage, then continuous checks through onboarding, device provisioning, and ongoing system access.

Deel CEO and Co-founder Alex Bouaziz connected the acquisition to where he sees hiring headed: “AI is changing every part of how companies build global teams, but it’s also changing the threat landscape. Organizations need more than point-in-time verification; they need continuous trust.”

Deel now serves more than 40,000 businesses across 150+ countries, reportedly surpassed $1.5 billion in annual recurring revenue in the first half of 2026, and is valued above $17 billion. India matters a great deal to that footprint. Indian professionals make up one of the largest pools of remote and contract talent hired through global EOR (employer of record) platforms like Deel, Multiplier, and Remote, and Indian IT services and GCC firms increasingly hire globally distributed contractors themselves.
