Goutam Banerjee has retired as Executive Director (Human Resources) of Coal India Limited, effective June 1, 2026, upon attaining the age of superannuation, the Maharatna coal producer disclosed to the stock exchanges.

The change in senior management was notified to the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. His exit closes a career spanning more than three decades in the coal and mining sector.

As Executive Director (HR), Banerjee oversaw workforce management, industrial relations and human-resource strategy for one of India’s largest public-sector employers, with people-centric initiatives spread across Coal India’s subsidiaries and production centres. His tenure coincided with a period of workforce transformation in the sector, as the company balanced operational expansion with skill enhancement and leadership development.

Before his elevation to Executive Director, Banerjee served as General Manager (Personnel, Manpower Planning and Industrial Relations) at Coal India, a role he took up in 2023. Earlier, he spent more than three decades with Eastern Coalfields, which he joined in 1994, rising through field, area and corporate-level HR functions, including a stint as Deputy General Manager (Personnel).

Banerjee began his career with Kesoram Refractories before moving to Durgapur Projects, a West Bengal government undertaking, and later joining Eastern Coalfields. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management from the Xavier Institute of Social Service and an honours degree in Economics.
