West Bengal’s government has finalised agreements with the Adani Group as part of a broader push to boost private investment in healthcare, education and skill development in the state, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said on October 25, 2026.
Speaking to reporters, Adhikari said the government was entering into agreements with various Indian Institutes of Technology and had finalised agreements with major industrial groups, including the Adani Group, as part of efforts to improve young people’s employment prospects through skilling.
“Hundreds of crores of rupees were spent in the name of the Bengal Global Business Summit, but nothing happened in terms of industry in the state,” Adhikari said, contrasting his government’s approach with that of the previous Trinamool Congress administration, which he described as having organised extravagant investment summits without delivering meaningful industrial development.
The skill training tie-up follows other recent Adani Group commitments in the state, including a previously announced investment of over ₹4,000 crore in a healthcare, college and research facility in the state, expected to create more than 10,000 jobs.
The West Bengal government has also set in motion plans to establish eleven new government polytechnic colleges across nine districts, with Rajeev Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Technical Education, Training and Skill Development Department, issuing an official notification on September 25, 2026, to support the state’s technical education expansion.
Adhikari said the government had already allotted land to 33 entities and would allocate land to other eligible investors after examining their proposals, as the state works to position skilling and industrial investment as priorities under the new administration.
