Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) added 4,258 employees net in the July-September quarter, bringing its total headcount to 598,056 as of September 30, 2026. The IT services giant also onboarded 10,000 freshers during Q2 FY27, marking its third consecutive quarter of net workforce expansion.
The company added 9,279 employees in Q1 FY27 and 2,356 in Q4 FY26, bringing its employee base up by more than 13,500 in the first half of this fiscal year alone. At the start of FY27, the company had issued about 25,000 campus offers, and roughly 14,000 of those freshers joined by the end of Q1.
“We continue to build a future-ready workforce through upskilling our employees and hiring top talent. Investments in learning and critical skills drove a 17% sequential increase in learning hours to 17.1 million. This quarter, our employee base reached over 598,000, while attrition remained stable at 13.3%,” said Sudeep Kunnumal, Chief HR Officer, TCS.
The hiring numbers were announced alongside TCS’s Q2 FY27 earnings on October 8. TCS reported consolidated net profit of Rs 13,884 crore, up 15% year-on-year from Rs 12,075 crore. Revenue stood at Rs 73,188 crore, up 11.2% from the same quarter last year. Total contract value for the quarter was $9.6 billion. BFSI, manufacturing, and technology & services led sequential growth on a constant-currency basis.
Employee attrition in the IT services vertical eased to 13.3% from 13.6% in Q1. TCS also aligned its salary structures in India with the new Labour Codes during the quarter.
“We are hiring for demand, and we definitely see good demand for these technologies, so we will continue to hire,” Kunnumal said during the analysts’ call. “We are in the final stages of our campus hiring for the students who graduate in the coming financial year.”
The headcount recovery is a marked turnaround from FY26, when TCS’s workforce shrank by about 24,000 employees as part of a broader restructuring that the company said targeted mid-to-senior roles. HCLTech reports Q2 results on October 12, and Infosys follows on October 23.
