Ericsson and the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) have inaugurated a Centre of Excellence at Government ITI Govandi in Mumbai to train around 300 young people in 5G and other emerging telecom technologies in the first year of the programme.
The centre, located at Government ITI Govandi on Kirol, Kurla Road, will offer specialised training on 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), telecom product line assembly, and handheld device repair. Approximately 300 students are expected to benefit from the training during the first year, with a stated focus on enhancing employability and facilitating job placements upon successful completion of the courses.
The Centre of Excellence uses industry-approved curricula and technology-enabled laboratories to deliver practical, job-oriented training, with a focus on young people from underserved communities, according to a joint statement. Ericsson and TSSC also plan to facilitate job placements for students who successfully complete the courses.
“The Centre of Excellence seeks to meet the growing industry need for skilled professionals on 5G and related technologies by providing advanced infrastructure, high-end skill laboratories and industry-aligned training programmes,” said Randeep Raina, Head of Customer Unit, Vodafone Idea, Ericsson.
“This Centre of Excellence will equip 300 youth with industry-relevant skills in 5G and in-demand technologies through advanced infrastructure, technology-enabled laboratories, and practical, industry-aligned training,” said Lt Gen Kulbhushan H Gawas (Retd), Chief Executive Officer, Telecom Sector Skill Council, in a statement.
The Mumbai launch extends an Ericsson and TSSC partnership that has previously set up similar centres, including one at Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University in 2023. Earlier in 2026, the two organisations announced the Ericsson ITI Labs Project to train 10,000 ITI students in 5G infrastructure deployment across the country through 10 advanced labs.
India’s rapid rollout of 5G, along with the growth of IoT and advanced security surveillance, has created demand for a workforce trained to deploy, operate and maintain next-generation infrastructure.
