Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has set a target to raise women’s representation in its executive workforce to 20% by 2030, up from more than 8% today. The company announced the goal on 7 September 2026, positioning it as part of a wider push to build a more diverse and future-ready talent pipeline.

Women currently make up more than 8% of HMIL’s executive workforce, which stood at over 4,000 employees in FY26. The company’s recent recruitment already points to a shift: women accounted for about 45% of the Management Trainees and Engineer Trainees it hired in 2026.

“Our commitment to achieving 20 per cent women representation in the executive workforce by 2030 reflects our focus on expanding opportunities, strengthening our talent pipeline and creating an environment where every individual can realise their full potential,” said Tarun Garg, MD & CEO, HMIL.

The target sits within HMIL’s diversity, equity and inclusion framework, which the company says covers gender-balanced recruitment, wider campus outreach, competency-based candidate assessments, development programmes and leadership preparation. HMIL reported rising participation of women across manufacturing, engineering, R&D, sales, service, corporate functions and leadership roles.

The scale of the jump is the harder part. Moving from more than 8% to 20% in roughly four years means the company will need to convert a strong entry-level intake into sustained gains in senior positions, which depends on retention, clear advancement paths and a deeper leadership bench. The 45% trainee share sits well above both the current executive baseline and the 2030 target, so early-career recruitment is no longer the main constraint.

The announcement comes as Hyundai prepares for a major investment and product cycle, with electrification, advanced manufacturing, software and new mobility technologies reshaping the skills the automotive industry needs. HMIL’s Indian operations have crossed 13.5 million cumulative sales, including exports to 150 countries, with production capacity expected to rise to 10.74 lakh units annually by 2028.
