According to a report by Great Place To Work India, 93% of employees in India’s global capability centres (GCCs) are Gen Z and millennials.

“As GCCs scale, recruiting high-quality talent and upskilling employees will increasingly go hand in hand with setting up the right culture and a compelling Employee Value Proposition,” said Balbir Singh, CEO, Great Place To Work India, talking about how 85% of GCC employees reported a positive workplace experience benchmark.

The study also found that the trust levels among Indian GCC employees are at about 82%, which is largely aligned with the IT sector, though it is still behind industries like retail, healthcare and manufacturing. Though peer collaboration was strong, last year saw a decrease in employee sentiment across areas such as perceptions of fair pay and profit sharing, clarity of organisational vision, involvement in decision-making, job security, and recognition.

GCCs in India have a strong gender inclusion rate, with one in three employees being women. This is significantly higher than the national average of about 26% when it comes to women’s participation in the workforce.

The six major cities of Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune and Chennai, as per the report, are home to 94% of GCCs in India. The existing number of operational GCCs in India is expected to increase to over 2,100 by 2028, with an estimated compound annual growth rate of about 8% throug fiscal year 2028.

Highlighting their growing importance in the Indian industry, GCCs are expected to account for about 35-40% of India’s office space demand for this year.
