OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, and Microsoft’s Vice Chair and President, Brad Smith, made an appearance at the ongoing India AI Impact Summit 2026. They spoke about the future of AI and how it is going to affect the future of work.

Talking about the readiness and potential of India in the space of AI, Sam Altman said that in this country, more than 100 million people use ChatGPT on a daily basis.

“More than a third of them are students. India is also the fastest-growing market now for Codex, our coded engine that works to help people develop software faster and better,” he added.

Further adding to this, Brad Smith said that Microsoft has announced a $50 Bn investment by the end of this decade to bring AI to the global south. “And out of all the countries that we are investing in, India is one of the largest.”

Emphasising the importance of skills, Smith said that to make AI bigger, skills need to be made accessible to all.

“If we build the infrastructure, invest in skilling, and address real-world problems, then it may create the foundation to think more and do more. I am willing to bet that the questions that the future of work is going to be a bigger part of the discussion for the next few AI summits,” he added.
