A job advertisement, reportedly seeking a “Non Marathi/Non Kannada” candidate for the position of head of human resources, has sparked outrage over social media.
The advertisement drew criticism over alleged discrimination and exclusionary hiring practices.
According to a social media post, the role would be based in Bengaluru and the post was made by Skill Sonics and circulated widely on social media after users shared screenshots of the candidate search, as per People Matters.
The public described the requirement not only as discriminatory but also offensive, arguing that it marginalised local talent. However, some users defended the post by saying that the move has been aimed at maintaining a balance in the linguistic representation within the organisation.
However, according to an ET HRWorld report, after facing the backlash, the company issued a public apology, which read, “We operate across the country, and Kolkata is our sole branch. We are seeking an apology from Kannadigas. As such an ad was given, we will look into it so that such incidents do not happen again. We also apologise to all pro-Kannada organisations. We will be cautious so that Such wrong things will never happen in future.”
