Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has paused its final anniversary appraisals for the employees who did not meet their work-from-office (WFO) requirements.
While the appraisals of these employees have been completed, they have not been processed, owing to, as per TCS, “WFO non-compliance,” revealed The Times of India.
“Please note your anniversary appraisal process is completed, but not processed further by corporate since you are WFO non-compliant till Q2 FY26 (July 2025 to September 2025). If your anniversary is not committed in January 2025 due to WFO non-compliance in Q3, as a consequence, you will be excluded from the FY26 banding cycle, and no performance band will be released,” an internal email seemingly stated, as per TOI.
The decision reflects TCS’s commitment to its office attendance policy. The company mandates its employees to work from the office five days a week. The halt in appraisals makes TCS the first company to act against its employees for not complying with WFO requirements through appraisal.
Only a few days ago, Wipro also tightened its work-from-office restrictions by mandating that employees be in the office for at least six hours on their scheduled office days. These moves indicate a broader push amongst companies in India towards moving back to the work-from-office model over working from home. However, not many companies have taken as strict an action as TCS if employees fail to comply with the established standards.
