Accenture has proposed setting up a new campus in Andhra Pradesh, aiming to add around 12,000 jobs through this initiative, as per Reuters.

With this move, Accenture seems intent on making the best of Andhra Pradesh’s new state policy, which offers leased land to large companies at ₹0.99 per acre to generate employment. Companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys have also made similar deals surrounding the policy.

Presently, 3,00,00 of Accenture’s global workforce of 7,90,000 are based in India. With this new campus, the company will be further bolstering its presence within the country.

As per a Reuters source, in a proposal being reviewed by the Andhra Pradesh state government, Accenture has requested about 10 acres of land in Vishakhapatnam based on the terms in the state’s new policy.

A state official told Reuters anonymously that Andhra Pradesh is eager to welcome Accenture within its borders. As per the official, there is a high chance that Accenture’s proposal will indeed be accepted.

“It is not an unreasonable ask by Accenture, and the proposal will go through,” the official revealed.

As of now, Accenture has not revealed how much it intends to invest in the new proposed campus, though it is certain to bolster the local employment opportunities.

TCS and Cognizant have already secured land leases as per the new policy in Vishakhapatnam. While Cognizant will be investing $183 million into its new campus, TCS has also set aside $154 million for the same.

The decision to expand in Andhra Pradesh by Accenture, TCS, and Cognizant showcases how companies are focusing on expanding to tier-2 cities. This is being encouraged by local state governments through inciting policies and promises.
