Wipro has mandated that its employees spend at least 6 hours in the office on days they are scheduled to work from campus.
Earlier, Wipro had a more flexible approach to how long employees had to stay in the office on set days. However, these rules have now been tightened and communicated to employees through internal emails. The company has established an explicit definition of how long employees must remain in the office between their “in” and “out” punches.
Currently, Wipro employees have to come to the office at least three days a week. The minimum six-hour rule, as per ET, took effect from January 1, 2026 and is applicable to all teams within the organisation.
As per Wipro’s HR team, while hybrid work remains key to the company’s long-term workplace strategy, tighter monitoring is necessary to ensure consistency and collaboration. The company hopes that its employees will follow the new policy “in both letter and spirit.”
The six-hour mandate will not affect the total length of the working day established by Wipro. The company’s standard workday is 9.5 hours, irrespective of whether the employee is working from home or the office. If the employees do not complete their set hours in the office, they are expected to make up the difference by working remotely on the same day and make sure that they deliver the assigned tasks.
As per ET, employees who fail to be in the office for at least six hours on scheduled days may face a half-day leave deduction. In case of repeated failure, the weekly office attendance requirement could affect leave balances.
Wipro had formalised its hybrid work in October 2024 when chief human resources officer, Saurabh Govil, announced that employees had to be in the office at least three days a week. The new six-hour limit showcases the company’s intent to bring back workers to office, shiftig away from the work from home model that had become common place following Covid-19.
