Parliament member Supriya Sule introduced the Paternity and Paternal Benefits Bill, 2025, on December 5, 2025, in the Parliament.

“The Paternity and Paternal Benefits Bill, 2025, introduces paid paternal leave to ensure fathers have the legal right to take part in their child’s early development. It breaks the traditional model, supports the new mother’s well-being, and promotes flexible parenting,” Sule shared on Twitter.

This is far from the first time that a bill to regulate the employment of men after becoming a father has been introduced in the Lok Sabha. Earlier, on December 3, 2021, Congress MP Jothimani had introduced the Paternity Benefit Bill, 2019, that also aimed to provide paternity leave and benefits to the male employees of establishments across India.

While the details of the new 2025 bill have not become public, the aim behind Sule’s proposal aligns with the increasing demand for paternity leave and benefits in Indian workplaces. Many companies have already taken a step towards this direction, with BP India offering 1 month, Colgate-Palmolive India providing 12 weeks, Zomato granting up to 26 weeks, and Hindustan Unilever Limited allowing 3 weeks to new fathers.

Alongside this bill, Sule also introduced the much-talked-about Right to Disconnect Bill, 2025, and the Code on Social Security (Amendment) Bill, 2025, on Friday.
