Tech Mahindra has rejected the rumours circulating on the internet regarding large-scale layoffs within the company.

In the past few days, many posts circulated on the internet, especially on X, claiming that Tech Mahindra was planning on laying off as many as 30,000 employees. As per the internet, this alleged layoff was to come about as a result of the company integrating artificial intelligence (AI) across its technology sector.

The rumours were laid to rest on March 9, 2026 (Monday) when Tech Mahindra stated in an exchange filing that the layoff rumours were incorrect.

“The company, on its own accord, considers it necessary to clarify to the Stock Exchanges that no such proposal is under consideration and categorically denies any such market rumours,” Tech Mahindra said in the filing, adding, “the company has received calls and has noted certain social media posts regarding a market rumour of a potential significant reduction in headcount.”

As per Tech Mahindra’s management, there are no layoffs, and the company is focused on improving productivity in fixed-price projects. As such, it is apparently redploying its employees from completed or lower-utilisation projects into new assignments, rather than reducing headcount.

Tech Mahindra has indeed started investing in AI and digital transformation, having recently announced a collaboration with Microsoft to launch an ontology-driven Agentic AI platform aimed at accelerating telecom and enterprise data modernisation.
