Tata Trusts, the philanthropy arm of The Tata Group, has appointed Venu Srinivasan as a trustee for life.
The appointment comes days before the expiry of Srinivasan’s tenure on October 23, 2025. As per sources, his appointment was unanimous, even as rumours of Tata Trusts being split in two continue to swirl.
As per reports, Tata Trusts seems to have split into two factions, with one aligned with Noel Tata, who took over the reins after Ratan Tata’s demise. The others have thrown their support behind Mehli Mistry, who has ties with the extended Shapoorji Pallonji family.
With Srinivasan’s appointment for life, the focus has now shifted to the possible reappointment of Mehli Mistry in the same capacity. Mistry’s term is scheduled to expire on October 28, 2025, and many wonder if he will be reappointed for life.
Since an appointment for life requires a unanimous vote, and the company is seemingly split in two, what might happen next has been left for speculation.
“Renewal and fresh appointment is required to be unanimous as per past practice. Renewal, after which it will be for life, requires unanimous approval,” a person aware of the development told the Press Trust of India.
