Tata Electronics, as per reports, is set to increase its headcount at its Hosaru plant in Tamil Nadu.

As per the report, there are about 60,000 employees at the Hosaru plant, which the company hopes to raise to 75,000 over the next six months. Tata Electronics claims that this rapid increase in workforce is to keep up with the increasing demand from Apple.

The Economic Times reported that Tata Electronics is hoping to match the number of employees of Foxconn, which is Apple’s largest contract manufacturer in India. Apple iPhone exports from India reached $10 million in the first half of the current fiscal year, indicating a 75% year-to-year jump, as per ET.

However, Tata’s ambitious plans to match Foxconn’s headcount might be hindered by the difficulty in finding qualified workers.

“Tata Electronics is struggling with finding enough skilled manpower. As the scale gets bigger and bigger, they are recognising that they have to be more thoughtful about how they approach factors like manpower, water, power and other things,” The Times of India quoted a source. “There’s a need, especially to solve for the talent piece because customer traction and other factors are rock solid.”
