As per sources, SpiceJet has been delaying the salaries of its senior employees. It has been reported that while employees earning up to ₹55,000 are still receiving their salaries, those above this threshold have not been paid.
“SpiceJet has once again started delaying salary payments to its staff. While employees drawing up to Rs 55,000 per month are getting payments on time, the rest of the staff, mostly Assistant Managers and above level, are getting payments with a delay of 10-15 days,” a source told the Press Trust of India.
According to SpiceJet’s FY25 annual report, the company has 6,484 employees, among whom 4,894 are on the permanent payroll.
Last year, from June to September 2024, SpiceJet was unable to pay its employees. According to reports, it cleared dues worth approximately ₹80 crores in September 2024. The company also did not pay its statutory dues worth ₹427 crore between April 2020 and August 2024 to its employees. This was cleared in October 2024.
During 2024-2025, SpiceJet provided an interest-free advance to Ajay Singh, the Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet. The ₹32 crore payment for a five-year period, as per the company’s annual report, was in accordance with the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and board-approved policy of the company.
“The company has adjusted the advance from the salary of subsequent months (April and May 2025), as per the company’s policy,” the report stated. “Further, this advance is not prejudicial to the interest of the company.”
