A group of gig worker unions representing workers on ride-hailing platforms like Ola, Uber, and Rapido has called for a strike on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Led by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union, the movement has been termed as an ‘All India Breakdown.’ App-based transport gig workers across India are set to go offline for 6 hours to urge the government to address unfair fare distribution by various aggregators.
“Despite Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025, platforms continue to fix fares arbitrarily. Our demands are clear: Notify minimum base fares. End misuse of private vehicles for commercial rides,” the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union explained on social media.
The strike follows a rise in protests by gig workers for fair compensation and social benefits. On December 31, 2025, gig workers on food delivery and quick commerce platforms held a strike to protest poor pay and working conditions.
