The internet was recently abuzz with news of OpenAI opening its first India office in New Delhi. The company has now started hiring for its local team.
According to the ‘Careers’ section on OpenAI’s official website, Indian applicants can filter job listings by selecting India as the location to view roles available for local operations. Currently, three positions are open, each for the role of Account Director, but across different verticals: Digital Natives, Large Enterprise, and Strategics. All three roles are tied to the company’s sales operations. Interested candidates can apply directly through the listings, which provide detailed job descriptions and an application portal.
India is a key market for the company, already ranking as its second-largest user base globally. To strengthen its presence, OpenAI recently launched an India-exclusive ChatGPT Go plan at ₹399, offering access to its latest GPT-5 model with an extended rate limit—at a fraction of the $20/month ChatGPT Plus and $200/month ChatGPT Pro plans. With CEO Sam Altman expected to make his second visit to the country soon and the company announcing fresh hiring plans, it will be interesting to see how these moves accelerate OpenAI’s efforts to expand and capture a wider Indian audience.
