Ola Electric said on Friday that it would lay off 5% of its workforce as part of a new restructuring move for ‘improving profitability’ through automation.
The company is doubling down on speed and discipline through increased automation. The move is likely to affect front-end operations. The company said that it is going to build a leaner organisation for better long-term growth.
About 620 people are going to be affected by the move, given that the total headcount of the company is about 12,396, Reuters reported.
The EV maker had slashed more than 1,000 jobs at its front-end operations in March last year, citing increased automation, which improved margins.
Last year in October, a 38-year-old Ola engineer, K Aravind, died by suicide, accusing his superiors, including Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal, of mental harassment and financial exploitation.
In the note, Aravind accused Subrat Kumar Das and Bhavish Aggarwal of workplace harassment and pressure.
