Months after his remarks on a 70-hour workweek sparked nationwide discussion, Narayana Murthy has weighed in on another pressing concern. This time, it is about the impact of AI on white-collar employment.
Amid rising anxiety in India and global markets over the rapid advancement of AI technologies, the Infosys founder advised young professionals to focus on preparation rather than panic.
Speaking about the growing debate around automation and job displacement, Murthy said that technological progress does not automatically create equal outcomes for everyone.
Drawing from his own experience using generative AI tools, he noted that individuals who think critically and learn quickly are more likely to benefit from such technologies. He told Moneycontrol that AI acts as an assistive tool that enhances productivity when used effectively.
Murthy emphasised that young people should view AI as an opportunity rather than a threat. He encouraged professionals to invest time in understanding emerging technologies, develop relevant skills, and combine AI adoption with discipline, continuous learning and hard work.
Reassuring those worried about employment disruption, he said there is no reason for youngsters to be overly concerned, adding that success in an AI-driven future will depend largely on how individuals adapt to and use these tools.
