During his address for the 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi aimed at creating 3.5 crore new jobs under the PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana in the next two years.
Previously known as the Employment-Linked Incentive scheme, the PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana is aimed at youth entering the private job sector for the first time. The new scheme aims to create up to 3.5 crore new jobs over the next two years, out of which about 1.92 crore will be first-time employees through an outlay of ₹99,446 crore.
Under the new scheme, Modi promised Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) wage of up to ₹15,000 to first-time employees with salaries up to ₹1 lakh a month. The first instalment of the EPF offering will be paid after six months of service, and the second will follow after 12 months of service and completing a financial literacy programme.
“My country’s youth, today is 15th August, and on this very day, we are launching a scheme worth ₹1 lakh crore for the youth of our country. From today, the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana is being implemented,” shared Modi.
“Under this scheme, young men and women getting their first job in the private sector will receive ₹15,000 from the government,” the Prime Minister added. “Companies that create more employment opportunities will also be given incentive amounts. The Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana will create nearly 3.5 crore new employment opportunities for the youth.”
The new scheme also aims to attract employers by providing an incentive worth up to ₹3,000 a month for every new employee who has been working for at least six months. The employers will receive the monthly incentive for two years once the conditions are met, though those in the manufacturing industry will see the incentives extend up to the third and fourth years.
The benefits highlighted in the scheme will apply to jobs created between August 1, 2025, and July 31, 2027.
“Today, opportunities are being created for our youth in new sectors. A massive campaign is going on for skill development, self-employment, internships in big companies and hence, youth of the country,” said Modi.
