With the festive season around the corner, e-commerce platforms are ramping up hiring and this time it’s Meesho leading the charge. The company announced plans to create nearly 12 lakh seasonal jobs across its seller and logistics network, marking a 40% increase from last year. Over 70% of these roles are expected to be filled from India’s tier-3 and tier-4 regions.
So far, Meesho’s sellers have already onboarded around 5.5 lakh seasonal workers to meet festive demand. They are offering short, focused training programs to prepare recruits for tasks such as sorting, manufacturing, and packaging. At the same time, logistics partnerships alone have generated 6.7 lakh seasonal job opportunities this festive season, representing a 90% jump compared to last year’s festive hiring requirement for logistics. The roles include first-mile and middle-mile staff along with delivery associates, involving responsibilities like picking, sorting, loading, unloading, and handling returns.
Sellers are also stepping up their preparations by adding new products, entering fresh categories, curating festive collections, and conducting inventory checks to cater to the surge in customer demand.
Sourabh Pandey, CXO, Fulfilment and Experience, Meesho said “The festive season is when many Indian households place their trust in e-commerce. In anticipation of this peak period, we have created over some 12 lakh seasonal opportunities, with a significant share emerging from India’s tier-3 cities.”
