Production across all three units of the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) came to a halt after around 1,100 employees collectively stopped work, disrupting the manufacturing of Mysore silk sarees in Mysuru.
The work stoppage is linked to an ongoing dispute surrounding the KSIC filature land issue at T. Narasipura, with employees demanding government intervention and a resolution from the Chief Minister before operations resume.
The disruption has raised concerns over supply shortages, as Mysore silk sarees may not be available in the market until the matter is settled, reported Deccan Herald.
Workers across the corporation’s units joined the protest simultaneously, effectively suspending silk processing and weaving activities. The agitation highlights growing anxiety among employees over the future of the facility and its operational continuity.
KSIC, known for producing the Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged Mysore silk sarees, plays a central role in sustaining the region’s traditional silk industry. The ongoing standoff is expected to impact both production timelines and retail availability if negotiations remain unresolved.
