The Karnataka Government has announced that it will train 1000 mid-career women for senior leadership roles, under its IT Policy 2025-30. Through the scheme titled Women in Global Tech Missions, the government aims to boost female by representation in high-level IT roles by offering them integrated training, fellowships and mentorship.
According to a Times of India report, the state government has allocated about Rs. 46 Cr for the programme. The grant will include Rs. 3 Lakh for each participating woman through fellowship support, Rs. 12.5 Cr dedicated to enabling international exposure, Rs. 1.5 Cr to develop the training curriculum, and a further Rs. 75 Lakh to foster mentoring and networking opportunities. The finance department has cautioned that the overall disbursement across government schemes should be kept within a Rs. 100 Cr ceiling.
Under this initiative, the state government aims to upskill the women in technology domains such as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, data privacy and tech diplomacy. According to IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge, this scheme has been designed to help women navigate and overcome mid-career hurdles, enabling them to proceed on to leadership positions. The detailed framework and official guidelines for the scheme are yet to be released.
The state seems to be trying to give a boost to the IT sector through its latest policy. Earlier, it also announced that it will offer a one-time relocation offer of up to ₹50,000 per employee hired by a company. The policy was announced during BTS and is positioning the state as a deeptech innovation destination.
