Infosys has announced plans to set up a permanent 20-acre campus in Visakhapatnam with a long-term seating capacity of 7,000 professionals, deepening its footprint in Andhra Pradesh’s emerging IT corridor.

The Bengaluru-headquartered IT services major confirmed the development through an official press release on April 30, 2026, after the state government allotted land for the project. The expansion comes barely two years after Infosys began scaling operations in the port city, where its workforce has grown from around 250 employees in early 2024 to nearly 1,900 today. An additional 750 seats are expected to become operational in the near term, taking the interim headcount past 2,600 before the permanent campus is ready.

A defining feature of the build-out has been local hiring. The Visakhapatnam centre has so far recruited over 1,000 freshers and 500 lateral hires from the region, drawing on talent produced by Andhra Pradesh’s skilling and industry-aligned education programmes.

“The company has outlined plans for a permanent 20-acre campus with a long-term seating capacity of 7,000 professionals, demonstrating strong confidence in the region’s long-term potential,” Infosys said in its official release.

Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh framed the announcement as validation of the state’s broader tech strategy. “Our vision is to create a vibrant, talent-first ecosystem where industry, academia, and government work in synergy. The expansion of Infosys in Visakhapatnam is a strong validation of this approach and reinforces our commitment to transforming Andhra Pradesh into a global hub for technology and innovation,” he said.

The Infosys announcement follows Google’s $15 billion investment commitment in Visakhapatnam, which kicked off earlier this year, and adds momentum to the city’s positioning as India’s next major IT hub outside the traditional Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune triangle. The state has been pushing its IT and Global Capability Centre policy alongside its LIFT initiative to attract anchor employers, and has been actively courting hyperscalers, semiconductor players, and IT services firms over the past 18 months.

Construction timelines and the phasing plan for the 7,000-seat campus have not yet been disclosed.
