In its report titled “Semiconductor and Beyond,” PwC highlighted that the global semiconductor industry is set to double to $103.5 billion by 2030 with a CAGR of 13.8%
Within its findings, PwC highlighted India’s rapid expansion in the semiconductor industry. By 2030, India’s semiconductor workforce is expected to grow by over 120%, reaching 4,00,000. This will make India the second-largest talent centre across the world, just after the US.
With an investment of ₹1.6 lakh, the India Semiconductor Mission is expected to generate about 29,000 new jobs in areas including design, manufacturing, embedded systems, and advanced packaging.
While Bengaluru and Hyderabad will remain primary hubs, tier-2 cities like Ahmedabad, Mohali, and Thiruvananthapuram are set to grow rapidly and provide opportunities to local talent.
At present, India’s semiconductor talent stands at around 2.5 lakhs, with 43,000 new job postings in 2024-2025 alone. About 80% of this workforce has less than 10 years of experience, indicating the increasing interest in the field but also highlighting potential leadership gaps.
Over 55 semiconductor Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are presently active in India, employing over 60,000 engineers. The cities of Bengaluru and Hyderabad presently account for 80% of India’s GCC workforce, but the industry is diversifying to tier-2 cities at a steady pace.
