Indian Bank plans to open about 100 new branches in FY27 and increase its headcount by roughly 2,500 employees, with the expansion focused on Central and Western India, MD and CEO Binod Kumar told PTI on 30 August 2026.

The recruitment will include specialist officers and will help the public-sector lender meet growing business volumes and replace retiring staff. The bank inaugurated 15 branches across the country on 15 August, its foundation day, and opened 100 branches over the previous year. As of 30 June 2026, Indian Bank operated 6,003 domestic branches and employed 41,875 people, along with overseas branches in Singapore, Colombo and Jaffna and an IFSC Banking Unit in Gandhinagar.

Last year we opened 100 branches. This year too we have similar plans. Just on August 15, which was our foundation day, the bank inaugurated 15 branches across the country,” Kumar said, adding, “Now we are trying to increase our presence in the Central and Western parts of the country.

Indian Bank, the seventh-largest public-sector bank, strengthened its presence in eastern India and Uttar Pradesh after the 2020 amalgamation of Allahabad Bank. With those markets more established, management is turning to Central and Western India for the next phase. Kumar also said the bank aims to bring gross non-performing assets down to 1.5-1.6% and net NPAs to 0.15-0.2% by the end of the current financial year.
