India’s manufacturing and services sectors are projected to generate more than 35 crore new jobs by 2030, according to estimates from multiple Sector Skill Councils and industry bodies compiled by the India Didactics Association (IDA).
The automotive sector is expected to add 20 to 25 lakh direct jobs by 2030, according to NITI Aayog estimates cited in the report, while logistics will require an additional 47 lakh skilled workers over the same period, per the Logistics Sector Skill Council. The telecom sector is projected to create 10 lakh new roles in line with National Telecom Policy objectives.
India’s clean energy transition is likely to contribute more than 44 lakh full-time jobs by 2030, according to CEEW-NRDC estimates, while the textiles and apparel industry anticipates nearly 2 crore new jobs within the next three years, per Ministry of Textiles projections from June 2026.
“AI and technology will change how we design and produce, but they will not replace the need for skilled people who can create, make, install and solve real-world problems,” said Rahul Mehta, CEO, Furniture & Fittings Skill Council.
Varun Tandon, CEO of the Water Management & Plumbing Skill Council, said the professionals of the future will be those who combine strong practical skills with digital proficiency. The IDA said this surge in employment potential is matched by an urgent need for accelerated skilling, practical training and stronger collaboration between industry and academia.
The findings were released alongside the announcement of DIDAC Skills 2026, an event intended to bring industry and skilling institutions together to address the industry-skills gap across advanced manufacturing, healthcare, wellness, furniture and fittings, sports and fitness, and emerging technologies.
