According to a recent survey by HR and staffing firm Genius Consultants, more than 63% of Indian companies have either halted hiring or begun reducing their workforce.
This trend is emerging amid escalating geopolitical tensions, particularly due to conflicts in regions like the Middle East. The insights are based on an online survey conducted between May 12 and June 6, covering responses from 2,006 employees across various sectors.
The report also highlighted that 36% of surveyed employees have seen their salary hikes, bonuses, or appraisals impacted due to ongoing geopolitical uncertainty.
Additionally, over 21% of respondents reported increased work pressure and tighter project deadlines. Meanwhile, 22% noted disruptions in international travel or global business exposure, and another 21% observed a decline in team morale and job confidence.
When asked about their outlook, 30% of employees admitted to feeling worried and said they are already seeing early warning signs. Another 26% described themselves as moderately concerned but are keeping a close eye on developments.
In response to this environment, many professionals are taking proactive steps—55% said they are upskilling or pursuing new certifications, while 31% have started exploring alternate job opportunities or backup roles.
Commenting on the findings, R P Yadav, Chairman and Managing Director of Genius Consultants, said: “Employers must remain transparent and adaptive, while employees continue to stay resilient, agile, and prepared for the road ahead.”
