The Mumbai police registered a case against a former Air India pilot for allegedly drawing salary and allowances from both Air India and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) while serving on deputation, amounting to ₹2.8 crore.
The complaint was filed by Vyakant Rao, a 64-year-old retired Air India employee, who initially submitted a private complaint with the Andheri metropolitan magistrate court, which directed the Vile Parle police to register an FIR.
As per the complaint, the Mumbai police has booked Captain Atul Chandra under IPC sections for cheating, forgery, criminal breach of trust, criminal breach of trust by a public servant, and using fake documents as genuine.
The complaint refers to the period from 2014 to 2017, when Captain Chandra joined DGCA on deputation as the chief flight operations inspector (CFOI). To avoid conflict of interest, CFOI and other officials deputed to DGCA are paid by the organisation and not their parent airline.
However, the complaint alleged that Captain Chandra had been drawing a salary from both DGCA and Air India at the time, earning an alleged extra sum of nearly 2.8 crore, as per Rao.
