With a net addition of 21.89 lakh members in June 2025, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has registered its highest-ever monthly payroll growth.
According to the provisional figures released on Wednesday, the June data shows a 9.14% rise in net payroll additions compared to May 2025. In June 2025, over 10.62 lakh new subscribers were enrolled, a jump of 12.68% from May. On a year-to-year basis, the growth of net payroll additions was at 13.64% while the new subscriber count increased by 3.61%.
About 6.39 lakh new entries were in the 18-25 age group, accounting for over 60% of new entries to the EPFO system. The net payroll addition for this age group stood at 9.72%, highlighting just how many new EPFO members are first-time employees.
Additionally, about 16.93 lakh employees rejoined EPFO in June 2025, a 5.09% increase from May and about a 20% increase from June 2024. These members chose to transfer their savings instead of withdrawing them, thereby extending their social security coverage.
Around 3.02 lakh women joined as new subscribers in June, showcasing an uptick in women’s participation in the EPFO workforce. This is an increase of 14.92% from May 2025. Meanwhile, the net female payroll addition was at 4.72 lakh, indicating double-digit growth both on a monthly and annual basis. As per officials, these numbers reflect a gradual move towards a more inclusive and diverse workforce.
Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana were the top contributors to the new EPFO additions. Maharashtra alone accounts for over 20% of the total additions. Together, the top five states and union territories contributed more than 61% of the net payroll.
Sectors such as schools, expert services, construction, higher education, engineering products, trading, and financing reported the most significant increases. Expert services, which include manpower, contributed over 42% of the total net membership during June 2025.
