Jatin Dalal, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Cognizant, revealed that the company remains undecided on the future salary hikes for its employees.
“Given the macro environment at play and the uncertainty around it, we have not yet taken a decision on salary increase. Our endeavour is to cover a vast majority of our employees during the second half of this year as and when we decide,” Dalal revealed.
With this announcement, Cognizant joins the list of several IT companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) that have delayed their salary hikes in 2025. With the global macroeconomic situation in flux, many companies remain on the fence about what the future holds, leading to a cautious approach.
Even so, Cognizant remains firm on its set target of hiring 15,000 to 20,000 freshers. Cognizant’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ravi Kumar S cited campus hiring as a primary reason behind the company’s headcount growth in the April-June 2025 quarter.
“Headcount grew by 2% sequentially, led by the hiring of recent college graduates,” Kumar said. “We are preparing our workforce for an AI-led future by deepening our capabilities in emerging technologies. As part of this, we are setting up a 21-acre learning campus in Chennai, focused on training freshers and lateral hires in advanced AI skills.”
By the end of the April-June 2025 quarter, Cognizant’s workforce stood strong at 343,800. The company added 7,500 during this time period, bringing the attrition down to 15.2% on a year-to-year basis, a 60-point decrease from the previous quarter.
