Coal India has appointed Mukesh Choudhary, currently Director (Marketing), to hold interim charge as Director (Human Resources). The arrangement follows the decision by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) not to extend the tenure of Vinay Ranjan beyond July 27, 2026, and it keeps the company’s HR leadership running while the process to appoint a regular Director (HR) continues.
Choudhary has served as Director (Marketing) at Coal India since December 23, 2022. A member of the 1996 batch of the Indian Ordnance Factory Services (IOFS), he worked earlier as Deputy Director General in the Department of Defence Production under the Ministry of Defence. His experience in the coal sector includes more than six years in the Ministry of Coal as Director (Coal Production and Despatch).
The outgoing Vinay Ranjan had served as Director (HR) from July 28, 2021. According to earlier reporting, the ACC’s decision on his non-extension was communicated through a Ministry of Coal order issued on July 16, 2026, which confirmed the government’s approval for the non-extension of his tenure.
