Coal India Limited (CIL) and its trade unions have agreed on a performance-linked reward (PLR) of Rs 1,10,250 per eligible employee for FY 2025-26. The decision will benefit approximately 2.01 lakh non-executive workers across CIL and its subsidiaries, with payments expected by October 15.
The PLR amount was finalised at the Apex Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) meeting held on October 3, 2026. This year’s figure marks a notable increase from last year’s Rs 1,03,000 per employee and continues a three-year upward trend in Coal India’s festive payouts.
Under the guidelines, employees who completed 312 or more days of duty during the April 2025 to March 2026 period will receive the full PLR amount. Those with fewer attendance days will get a proportionately reduced payout. Dismissed employees are not eligible.
Last year’s PLR, announced in September 2025, carried a total financial outlay of Rs 2,153.82 crore for CIL and Rs 380 crore for Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). The 2026 outlay figures haven’t been officially disclosed yet, but the per-employee increase suggests a higher total.
Coal India produces over 80% of the country’s domestic coal. The PLR payout has historically coincided with the festive season and is expected to boost consumer spending in coal-producing regions and surrounding commercial centres.
