Biopharmaceutical major AstraZeneca is expanding its global hub in Bengaluru with an investment of ₹166 crore, set to generate 400 new jobs. The expanded facility will accommodate nearly 1,300 employees and strengthen the company’s AI-driven capabilities across Research and Development, Global Business Services, IT, and Digital Health functions.

AstraZeneca’s latest move marks its second major investment in India over the past year, coming after the recent growth of its Global Innovation and Technology Centre (GITC) in Chennai. With the Bengaluru expansion, the company’s employee base in India is expected to touch 4,000, boosting its capabilities in delivering life-changing medicines worldwide.

Jackie Crockford, Vice President of Global Business Services at AstraZeneca, highlighted the strategic importance of the Bengaluru hub, stating, “Our Global Hub in Bengaluru is a strategic investment that will play a vital role in advancing AstraZeneca’s bold ambition to deliver 20 new medicines by 2030 by strengthening automated, scalable, data-driven and patient centric solutions.”

He added that this move underscores the company’s commitment to leveraging Karnataka’s world-class talent and innovation ecosystem to fuel the next wave of scientific advancements.

The new facility also reflects AstraZeneca’s commitment to environmental sustainability, with a design aimed at achieving LEED Platinum certification. Currently powered by 75% renewable energy, it features waste-water recycling and IoT-enabled systems to optimise energy use, among other green initiatives.
