In the EY 2025 Mobility Reimagined Survey, Ernst & Young (EY) highlighted how 81% of Indian employees believe that “mobility assignments can be transformative to their careers.”

The report highlighted how Indian employers will, going forward, focus on integrating their talent strategy with their mobility programs. Through mobility, companies in India plan on attracting, retaining, and developing talent, while also providing an elevated employee experience.

Discussing what motivates them, 62% of Indian employees stated skill development as the prime reason behind their desire for mobility, while 44% cited a competitive financial package. As for employers, the most attractive benefit of global mobility is the ability to address skills gaps and add value to the organisation. 47% Indian employers also believe that high-performance/future leader programs have the most impact on employees’ growth.

“The future of work demands that mobility evolves from a transactional process into a strategic driver of organisational agility and employee empowerment. As talent expectations shift, companies must rethink how they design mobility experiences—prioritising flexibility, personalisation, and continuous development. Mobility is no longer just about filling roles; it’s about unlocking potential, fostering innovation, and building resilient, future-ready organisations that can thrive amid uncertainty and rapid change,” said Sonu Iyer, Partner and National Leader, People Advisory Services Tax, EY India.

The EY report also shed light on AI usage within the workplace and its impact on mobility programs. 72% of employers believe that GenAI helps in bridging talent gaps by identifying skill shortages across countries. That said, 25% of employers remain concerned about data security and limited in-house AI expertise when it comes to AI adoption.

More than mobility, though, employees in India seem to value flexibility. 70% of Indian employees stated that flexibility is their top priority during the mobility experience, along with the ability to customise housing, health insurance, and relocation. 50% of employees added that they are willing to consider virtual assignments as a form of mobility in the future. As per the report, 59% of Indian companies offer flexibility in their international mobility programs through multiple policy options based on specific criteria.

“Global mobility is fast becoming a strategic lever to future-proof organisations. It’s not just about moving talent, it’s about transforming how businesses respond to skills disruption, access diverse capabilities, and build competitive advantage in a dynamic global landscape,” said Amarpal Chadha, Partner and India Mobility Leader, People Advisory Services Tax, EY India.

When it comes to mobility packages, about 44% Indian employees still rank higher compensation and financial gains as the topmost factor.
